Math 8: Th. 5/25/17 PRACTICE FINAL

Posted on 25. May, 2017 by in Math 8, Mrs. Talmage

Today we went over the final exam in class. There are two parts to the final exam: Performance TASK and Final EXAM. The performance task is a complex volume question just like the ones we have been practicing in class and in homework. The performance task will take place in class on Wednesday 5/31. The Final Exam is a bubble test, but it is not multiple choice. Students are presented with a question and 4 selections for answers (a-d). Students must select all correct answers (in other words, some problems have more than one correct answer or no correct answers). Students will receive a point for each of the four bubbles- a point for empty bubbles as well as marked bubbles. The intention of this scoring system is to prevent guessing, and to ask students authentic questions about the material they have learned this year (rather than answering questions by process of elimination). The final exam will be given on Th. 6/1 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd periods, and Fri. 6/2 for 4th period.

The practice final given in class today IS THE ACTUAL FINAL EXAM. The only thing missing are the answer selections. Students will be allowed to add 2 pages of notes to their toolkit notebooks to prepare for the final. They can add textbook notes, examples from the cpm website, examples, web resources, and work from homework (everything goes!).
